I received a credit through my portal. What happens now?

If you got a credit from your landlord, mortgage servicer, or lender through your portal, it'll show up in your Split Pay account. What happens next depends on the type of credit.

Disbursement (the most common kind — overpayments, deposit or escrow refunds, payment adjustments): we automatically refund the amount to your connected debit card. You should see it within 3–5 business days. Nothing to do on your end.

Return after a successful retry: if your first payment failed but a retry succeeded, and whoever you pay then asked the portal to return the funds — we automatically refund those funds to your connected debit card. 3–5 business days. You don't need to do anything. See My landlord, lender, or servicer is asking about returning or refunding a payment — what happens?.

A larger or unusual credit: we may send you an email asking you to explain why you received it. You have 3 business days to reply. If we don't hear back, the credit goes back to your portal automatically.

Reasons you might receive a credit:

  • Overpayment

  • A deposit or escrow refund (e.g., a rental security deposit or a mortgage escrow adjustment)

  • A payment adjustment — repairs, refunds, a corrected amount, or a payoff overage on a loan

If you're not sure why you got it, your landlord, servicer, or lender can tell you directly. If something looks off about your credit, contact our Support team.
