Why does Split Pay say my password was in a data breach when I'm signing up?

This is a security feature, not an error. The system detected the email and password combination you entered in a public data breach from another website. To protect your Split Pay account, you'll need to choose a different password.

This doesn't mean your Split Pay account was compromised — it means this password was exposed somewhere else and shouldn't be reused.

Your new password needs:

  • At least 8 characters

  • One uppercase letter

  • One lowercase letter

  • One number or special character

A few tips for picking a stronger password:

  • Use a passphrase — combine a few random words you'll remember but others won't guess

  • Or use a password manager to generate and store a unique password just for Split Pay

This check is non-negotiable, even if you've used the password elsewhere without issues. Once you choose a different password, you can finish creating your account.
