Depends on whether it's the first or second time it happens.
First missed deadline:
Your payment is canceled
Your account stays active
You can submit a new payment once you've provided the required documentation
Second missed deadline (within a short window):
Your payment is canceled
Your account may be suspended
You'd need to contact our compliance department to resolve before using Split Pay again
For portal users specifically:
If the missed deadline was during the approval stage (before getting Split Pay account/routing numbers), your setup resets entirely. You'd need to reapply from scratch.
If the missed deadline was on a same-day payment, the payment is returned to your portal — your landlord may need to reschedule, and you may be liable for any late fees on their side
Why deadlines are firm:
The verification process exists to keep Split Pay (and your account) secure. If holds could be indefinitely deferred, the security check wouldn't actually protect anyone.
If you missed a deadline by a small margin:
Get in touch with us as soon as you realize
We can sometimes pass the case to compliance for a fresh look, especially if you have documentation ready now
This isn't guaranteed, but it's worth asking
If you're approaching a deadline and won't make it:
Get in touch before the deadline if possible
A heads-up that you're working on it is much better than going silent and asking after the fact
We can sometimes flag your case as "in progress" if there's a specific obstacle (e.g., waiting on your landlord to send the lease)
