Can my virtual account be used for security deposit returns or move-in fees?

It depends on whether money is being charged to you or sent back to you.

Charges (a move-in fee or a security deposit billed by your portal): Yes — once you’ve split a valid rent payment, these can go through your Split Pay account and routing numbers. Split Pay recognizes when a charge is a fee rather than rent and handles it automatically:

  • Charged separately from rent: sent in full — it won’t be split.
  • Charged together with your rent in one pull: split with the rent, as long as the total is within your approved Split Pay amount.

Money sent back to you (a returned security deposit, a move-in fee credit, or any other refund): as long as your Split Pay account and routing numbers are still set as your payment method in your portal, that money comes back to Split Pay — we receive the credit and refund it to your debit card.
