Why can't I just enter my account and routing numbers when connecting my bank?

Because Plaid (the secure bank-login flow we use) is faster and far more reliable than typing account and routing numbers by hand.

The problem with manual account and routing entry:

  • Typos are easy. A single wrong digit means the connection silently fails — and you only find out when a payment doesn't go through.

  • No ownership verification. Manual entry can't confirm you actually own the account, which leads to more failed payments and review holds.

  • Slower verification. Manual entry requires micro-deposits (small test amounts your bank takes a few days to receive), while Plaid verifies instantly.

Why Plaid is better:

  • Verifies you own the account in seconds (you sign into your bank, not us)

  • Pulls account and routing numbers automatically — no typing, no mistakes

  • Instantly active — no waiting for micro-deposits

If you can't use Plaid (your bank isn't supported, you don't bank online, etc.), you cannot apply or use Split Pay. A valid, Plaid connected bank account is required to use Split Pay.
