Because Plaid (the secure bank-login flow we use) is faster and far more reliable than typing account and routing numbers by hand.
The problem with manual account and routing entry:
Typos are easy. A single wrong digit means the connection silently fails — and you only find out when a payment doesn't go through.
No ownership verification. Manual entry can't confirm you actually own the account, which leads to more failed payments and review holds.
Slower verification. Manual entry requires micro-deposits (small test amounts your bank takes a few days to receive), while Plaid verifies instantly.
Why Plaid is better:
Verifies you own the account in seconds (you sign into your bank, not us)
Pulls account and routing numbers automatically — no typing, no mistakes
Instantly active — no waiting for micro-deposits
If you can't use Plaid (your bank isn't supported, you don't bank online, etc.), you cannot apply or use Split Pay. A valid, Plaid connected bank account is required to use Split Pay.
