Identity verification is a regulatory requirement for any service that handles payments — Split Pay included. We're required to confirm you are who you say you are before we can process payments on your behalf.
Why it exists:
It protects you from someone else opening an account in your name
It prevents fraud across the system
It's mandatory under federal law for financial services
What it looks like: during signup, we ask for your name, date of birth, and address, then use a few standard methods to confirm everything matches official records. Most people get through the process in a couple of minutes.
One thing to know: verification is something every customer goes through, the same way. It isn't applied differently based on who you are or where you live. If it feels like a lot of friction, that's because the stakes (preventing fraud and identity theft) require a real check.
If something specific is going wrong with your verification, see the FAQ on Why did my identity verification fail?.
