My tenant got denied for Split Pay. Why?

Specific denial reasons are something Split Pay can only share directly with your tenant — not with you, even though you're their landlord. That's a privacy thing.

What we can tell you is the most common reason renters don't get approved:

The bank account a renter links to Split Pay needs to be the account where their income gets deposited. Many people link a separate account they only use for paying bills — and that's the most common reason applications don't go through. Tenants whose paychecks land in the linked account have the strongest path to approval.

A few other things that matter:

  • Account consistency — regular deposit patterns and balance history

  • Account ownership — the account needs to be in the renter's name

Tenants can reapply right away with the right account linked. There's no waiting period.

We share all of this — plus more specific tips — directly with your tenant when they're denied, both in the app and in the email they get. So they have the info they need to try again.
